Project idea

"A Spiritual Journey: From Earth to the Divine Throne"

As part of the human mind's setup, we often think about God, heaven, hell, and other religious elements—the space of God, Arsh-e-Azim, etc. From childhood, we imagine a route from the Earth through the seven doors of the sky, leading to the divine space where God resides. We also imagine mediums for this journey, such as a flying mat, Buraq (a horse that can fly), or a stairway. We see it as a long, unreachable path that cannot be completed without the help of Allah. While designing the DUET Second Campus Mosque, I want to create a space that reflects this imagined journey—a spiritual route that connects the servant (slave) to the Almighty

Project description

We have implemented this spiritual journey in our mosque design by creating an open ablution area exposed to the sky—symbolizing openness and purification under divine presence. Surrounding this courtyard, we designed a wide, one-directional staircase that reflects the identity of a spiritual journey, gradually ascending and guiding worshippers toward the sacred space.Additionally, the first two floors are connected through a double-height space, enhancing the sense of vertical movement and openness. All floors are further connected by a central void above the mihrab, which acts as a spiritual axis—a light well and spatial connector representing the unseen path between the servant and the Creator
