Improvement of Voskresensky Avenue in Yoshkar-Ola

The city of Yoshkar-Ola is famous for its architecture in the city center, but it also has an unattractive area around it. The main target audience is the residents of Yoshkar-Ola (the city's population is approximately 285,000 as of 2025), as well as tourists who visit the city (the number of tourists significantly exceeds the population each year due to popular attractions such as the Brygge Embankment).

The main idea is to combine the principles of new landscaping techniques with the ethnic identity of the Mari people.

The geometry is based on a cubic shape, which is repeated in the gable of buildings.
The cubic form of landscaping also takes on the function of noise insulation and forms functional zones (entrance groups, quiet recreation areas, a playground, an amphitheater for cultural events).

We leave out transit, and insert small architectural forms into the resulting "holes".

Lighting: cubes with Mari patterns, lower lighting of the greening tiers, upper lighting combined with art objects in the form of glowing birds.

The improvement was made in the concept of sustainable development and inclusivity.

Technické informace

The range is neutral-terracotta, cubic shape, local durable materials (wood, natural stone), paving stones, clinker bricks.

Landscaping: we place lawn on tier 1, low-yielding drought-resistant plants (matricaria chamomilla, сalendula, spiraea, сalamagrostis) on tier 2, and trees (betula and sorbus aucuparia) on tier 3.

Small architectural forms: it was decided to add benches with forest ornaments for visitors to spend time comfortably.
There is also a children's area, art objects-benches in the shape of a Mari bear, geometric bird lanterns,stands with Mari fairy tales, chairs in the shape of sorbus aucuparia ash berries and "silent" fountains.
