Idea projektu

The idea of this project is to create a modern library space primarily dedicated to students and the local community, providing a place for meetings, collaborative work, and study. The project aims to stimulate creativity and imagination, supporting both individual work and group workshops. The name “Kreatorium” reflects the goal of creating an environment that encourages the generation of new ideas and the free exchange of thoughts among people from different fields.

Popis projektu

The project focuses on designing a modern library space in Wrocław, primarily dedicated to students and the local community. Its main goal is to create an environment that supports learning, collaboration, and creative thinking. The building is situated along the Odra River, and its shape was inspired by the natural curvature of the riverbed. Instead of using straight, rigid axes, the design incorporates curved forms and arches that imitate shapes found in nature, creating soft transitions between different functional zones. On the ground floor, the library hosts a café that is divided into a bar area, where users can place orders, and a seating area at the front of the building, furnished with tables, chairs, and sofas. Adjacent to the café, there is an information point and a cloakroom with lockable lockers, allowing visitors to store their personal belongings and outerwear. The zones are separated by arched walls, subtly defining the boundaries of each section without interrupting the visual flow of the space. Behind one of these walls, near the elevator, stairs lead to the lower floor’s quiet study zone. A rear exit from this area opens directly into a garden, offering visitors a chance to relax in a natural setting with views of the river. The lower floor is entirely dedicated to work and study. Its open layout, combined with non-linear seating arrangements, encourages spontaneous interactions, dialogue, and collaborative activities. Computer workstations provide access to the library’s digital collection, while carefully selected illustrated albums and magazines on the shelves complement the virtual resources. Additionally, two conference rooms are located on this floor, designed for presentations, workshops, and educational events. Thanks to a wall built with sliding panels that can be stored in the side walls, the two rooms can be combined into a single larger space to accommodate bigger groups. Overall, the library emphasizes openness, flexibility, and creativity. Neutral tones and soft, curved forms create an inviting environment that encourages interdisciplinary interaction, while the integration of natural elements, such as the view of the Odra River and access to the garden, enhances the users’ experience and promotes well-being. The name “Kreatorium” reflects the core philosophy of the project: a space designed to stimulate imagination, facilitate knowledge sharing, and inspire the creation of new ideas.

Technické informace

The building is a two-story structure designed to accommodate library functions, study areas, conference rooms, café operations, and administrative facilities. The ground floor includes a café with a bar and seating area, an information desk, and a cloakroom with lockable lockers. Vertical circulation is provided via a staircase and an elevator, ensuring full accessibility for people with disabilities. The building has three exits, including a rear exit leading to the outdoor garden area. The lower floor contains the main study and work zones, including computer workstations connected to the digital library system, shelving for physical media, and two conference rooms. The conference rooms are equipped with sliding panels that allow the space to be reconfigured as one large room or two smaller rooms. The structural system consists of reinforced concrete floor slabs and load-bearing columns. Non-load-bearing partition walls, including arched partitions, separate functional zones. Flooring, walls, and ceiling materials were selected for durability, fire resistance, and acoustic performance. The building is equipped with server rooms, electrical distribution, data cabling, and climate control systems to maintain operational reliability. Furniture and workstation layouts are modular, allowing adaptation for different activities.
